Apple’s iPhone 15 launch event in September will be pre-recorded

No more live Apple keynotes?

A few months remain for the iPhone 15 series launch event, and the internet is already heating up with the launch rumors.

The last rumor said the event will take place on September 12th or 13th, and even specified the general availability will start from September 22nd. And now, the latest report suggests this event will be mostly pre-recorded.

iPhone 15 launch will be a pre-recorded event like last year

Apple started pre-recording its keynotes after the COVID-19 pandemic back in 2020. Although, for recent events like WWDC 2023, Apple allowed in-person gatherings, the keynote was still pre-recorded.

Reputed Apple leaker and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has stated on Twitter, “Not that there was any doubt, but Sept 12 event is being prepared as an in-person launch. So recorded video + people watching at the Apple campus + hands on afterwards. Same as the iPhone 14.”

While we love Apple’s live events, switching to a video keynote makes sense. It has removed the possibility of certain demos going wrong, giving Apple more control over the event. The company can even cut certain parts of the video if they decide to remove a feature close to the launch.

For example, the third-generation iPod Touch was supposed to have a camera, but the company removed it very close to the actual announcement. Taking such decisions won’t be an issue with pre-recorded keynotes.

It seems like the iPhone 15 event will be pretty similar to the iPhone 14 event from last year. The main focus will be the hands-on experience for attendees following the video keynote. The upcoming iPhone 15 series is expected to appear with more than a few changes.

However, we are still not sure if Apple is permanently switching to pre-recorded keynotes. It is possible that the company will make a comeback to hosting events with the iPhone 16 in 2024. So, we just have to wait and watch.

That said, it is pretty much confirmed that the upcoming iPhone 15 event on September 12/13 will be another pre-recorded presentation from Apple, where you will see the launch of a new iPhone with a USB-C port and a bunch of other rumored features.
