Fitbit is a leading fitness tracker manufacturer with a global user base. However, despite its popularity, the company has released only a handful of new fitness trackers in recent years.

The most recent launch from the company is Fitbit Inspire 3, launched in 2022, and we haven’t seen a launch since then. However, a recent report indicates Fitbit might be gearing up to launch at least one fitness tracker in 2023.

What is this new 2023 Fitbit fitness tracker?

New Fitbit Fitness Tracker is in the works
Image: KnowTechie

A new FCC filing indicates a launch is imminent. So, we expect Fitbit to launch this new 2023 fitness tracker pretty soon. However, we are yet to learn what the device actually will be like.

According to the listing, the upcoming tracker has only Bluetooth connectivity support, meaning there’s no Wi-Fi and likely no NFC support. So, in other words, you won’t be able to use Fitbit Pay or Google Pay for contactless payments.

In light of this leak, we only see two possibilities. It could be a sequel to the Fitbit Luxe, which originally launched in 2021.

At the time of its launch, the fitness tracker company had tried to market it as a luxury model, but it also didn’t feature NFC support, which didn’t make any sense. However, it is unlikely Fitbit would make the same mistake again.

The other possibility we are looking at is the sequel to the Fitbit Ace 3. The Ace line is designed for kids, so the missing NFC is justified.

Of course, there’s still a chance that we are looking at a completely new fitness tracker from the company. But we firmly believe this is Fitbit Ace 4.

New Samsung Galaxy Buds could be in the works, says leak https://knowtechie.com/samsung-new-galaxy-buds-sm-r400n/ https://knowtechie.com/samsung-new-galaxy-buds-sm-r400n/#respond Tue, 22 Aug 2023 16:47:17 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=315331 Unlikely this is the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3, though.

The post New Samsung Galaxy Buds could be in the works, says leak appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
2023 has been quite the year for Samsung. The Korean tech giant started the year with the Galaxy S23, which became a fan-favorite Galaxy S series.

Then, only a month ago, the company held its second Unpacked event of the year, where it launched The Galaxy Tab S9, the Galaxy Watch 6 series, and its foldable smartphone series, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5.

And the Galaxy S23 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 FE series are in the pipeline, according to reliable sources, ready to launch by the end of the year.

Now, we are almost in the fourth quarter of the year, and Samsung hasn’t announced a new set of earbuds. The last Samsung Galaxy Buds launched back in 2022, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4.

The Dutch news outlet Galaxy Club has now revealed new info that indicates a new model of the Samsung Galaxy Buds is in the works. According to the outlet, the new earbuds carry the model number SM-R400N.

Could it really be the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3?

samsung galaxy buds 2 earbuds
Image: Samsung

Naturally, the mind goes to the Galaxy Buds 3, which was rumored to appear at last month’s Unpacked event. It has been almost two years since Galaxy Buds 2 launched. So, we are due for an upgrade.

However, the model number tells a different story. Based on the model number, the new Samsung earbud in development won’t likely be a “Pro” model, as Samsung’s Pro earbuds line uses “SM-R5xxx” as the standard model number.

The likely possibility the leaked device is an intermediary variant. In the past, Samsung has launched intermediary devices before launching a new iteration. So, the SM-R400N model could be something in between — Galaxy Buds 2 Plus or even a “Fan Edition.”

The Fan Edition theory makes sense since Samsung may revamp the FE brand in 2023. After skipping a year, we have a clear indication that the Galaxy S23 FE is in the pipeline alongside the Galaxy Tab S9 FE. A pair of Fan Edition earbuds would go well with those.

Unfortunately, we don’t have enough information to draw a conclusion. New leaks will surely appear in the coming weeks. Until then, all we can say is that Samsung is working on a new earbud which likely will not be part of the “Pro” line.

Wear OS 2 devices are losing Google Assistant https://knowtechie.com/wear-os-2-dropping-google-assistant/ https://knowtechie.com/wear-os-2-dropping-google-assistant/#respond Wed, 16 Aug 2023 17:44:31 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=313938 Pour one out for Assistant on older Wear OS devices.

Google is reportedly removing Assistant support from older watches running Wear OS 2.

The smartwatch market has certainly gotten quite bigger in the last few years. Wear OS 4 launched recently, but there are still numerous smartwatches in the market that still running Wear OS 2 or earlier.

Unfortunately for those users, recent reports say Google will soon remove Assistant support from these older watches.

Google is ending Assistant support on Wear OS 2 and earlier smartwatches

Google is killing Assistant support on older Wear OS 2 watches
Image: KnowTechie

Editor’s Note: It’s worth noting that, while the following text was found in the Wear OS app, it doesn’t mean this removal of Assistant will happen. Google may or may not ship this feature, or they might find a way to preserve Assistant support. That said, most Wear OS 2 watches are running on underpowered chips, and Assistant is resource-heavy. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to think about upgrading anyway.

According to the folks at 9to5Google, the tech giant plans to eliminate Assistant support from devices running Wear OS 2 or earlier. The outlet found a text string in the Wear OS companion app indicating this could happen soon.

The latest version of the Wear OS companion app contains the following string:

“Google Assistant support on this watch is ending soon. Please upgrade to a newer watch that supports Google Assistant and runs Wear OS 3 or later.”

However, the string doesn’t provide a specific timeline for when Google Assistant will be killed off on the Wear OS 2 and earlier smartwatches. We speculate an announcement from Google will happen soon, at least before the end of 2023.

That said, it’s pretty disappointing news. Multiple Wear OS 2 smartwatches have been released in the last few years. Without important features like Assistant, those devices are effectively end-of-life.

We won’t blame the Wear OS 2 smartwatch owners if they feel aggravated.

Can a mechanical keyboard help you type faster? https://knowtechie.com/can-a-mechanical-keyboard-help-you-type-faster/ https://knowtechie.com/can-a-mechanical-keyboard-help-you-type-faster/#respond Tue, 15 Aug 2023 17:22:00 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=128573 Gamers love them, but will they make you a faster typer?

The post Can a mechanical keyboard help you type faster? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: Yes, mechanical keyboards can help increase typing speed and accuracy compared to membrane keyboards. The tactile feedback and actuation force of mechanical switches allow your fingers to move faster and more precisely between keys.

Nowadays, it’s common to see mechanical keyboards on gamers’ desks, with their tactile switches and vibrant RGB lighting.

This type of keyboard is often marketed as enhancing gaming performance, as the mechanical switch design allows for quick, precise keypresses. The responsive, durable keys are built for high-speed action and gameplay requiring split-second reactions.

That’s not all they’re good for, though. I mean, it’s a keyboard, right? Primarily used for typing, not just fragging noobs?

Whether you’re a coder, a writer, or just doing your school homework, the typing experience with a mechanical keyboard is second to none.

So, is it going to improve your typing ability? Will you be able to type faster for typing on a mechanical keyboard?

So, do mechanical keyboards make you type faster?

Short answer: Yes, but not without practice

The thing about mechanical keyboards, for most people, is their tactility.

The additional feedback on your fingertips not only lets you know that you hit the right key but also that you pressed it far enough down to register a keystroke. This feedback loop will, over time, make you a faster typer as your fingers acclimate.

No matter what type of key switch you have on your keyboard, whether it’s linear, tactile, or clicky switches, they all provide physical feedback.

In addition, clicky switches also make a louder noise when pressed down. If you type on these switches for a while, you’ll see an improvement in your typing speed.

You can speed the process along by using online tools, such as typrX, which has gamified typing with online leaderboards and the ability to race other people across the world or challenge specific friends to a type-out.

How To Type Faster On A Mechanical Keyboard

To type faster on a mechanical keyboard, firstly, practice proper finger placement and utilize all your fingers. Secondly, develop muscle memory by regularly typing and gradually increasing your speed. Lastly, consider using typing software or online tools that offer lessons and exercises specifically for mechanical keyboards.

Trying out blank keycaps can also help by making it impossible for you to see the legends on each key by looking down at your fingers. Oh, and don’t slouch. Bad posture also makes your typing slower and could lead to injury.

So, do mechanical keyboards make you type faster?

When it comes to typing speed, having that solid key travel and actuation force can definitely help increase your words per minute. Your fingers instantly know when a key is registered, so you can move on to the next one faster.

That said, no magic keyboard is going to instantly double your typing speed. You still need practice and good technique to max out those gains.

But if you’re serious about getting faster and more accurate at typing, a high-end mechanical board gives you an advantage. The durability keeps that smooth, speedy feel going for years too.

So if you’ve got the cash, mechanical is the way to go. Your fingers will thank you, even if your wallet won’t.

What do you think? Do you feel like you type faster on a mechanical keyboard? Let us know down below in the comments or carry the discussion over to our Twitter or Facebook.

It was only last year Google that launched its first smartwatch, the Google Pixel Watch. It turned out to be one of the best Android smartwatches, with a few bits that could be improved upon.

Fans are now eagerly waiting for its second iteration, the Google Pixel Watch 2. We hope Google will address all or at least some of the potential areas of improvement with the Pixel Watch 2.

However, the upcoming Pixel Watch 2 was recently spotted on the FCC certification website, revealing a few details.

Google Pixel Watch 2 expected to come with four different types of bands

The report comes from reputed news outlet 9to5Google. According to the outlet, three Google Pixel Watch 2 models appeared at the FCC, with listing numbers G4TSL, GC3G8, and GD2WG.

The first one is the vanilla Bluetooth and Wi-Fi variant, which has been tested with four different strap options — a plastic active strap, a metal link strap, a metal mesh strap, and a metal slim strap.

Image: Jon Prosser

The Metal Slim Strap is the latest addition. We have never seen it before. However, it could be a lighter version of the current link band, given the name.

Although the Metal Mesh Band was announced earlier for the original Pixel Watch, Google never made it available. So, the band could finally arrive with the Pixel Watch 2.

On the other hand, the GC3G8 model supports LTE Band 5 and 7, while the GD2WG model supports LTE Band 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 66, and 71. We speculate the latter will likely be the US model.

The Google Pixel Watch 2 is expected to launch alongside the Google Pixel 8 series in October, which means we are bound to get more PIxel Watch 2 details in the coming weeks. So, stay tuned to our channel.

The post Casting media to the Pixel Tablet just got a whole lot easier appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Google already has a way to cast media from Pixel smartphones to the Pixel tablet, but it isn’t simple enough. The procedure involves a few steps, which aren’t quite convenient.

So, it’s no wonder Google is working to simplify the process.

Google’s new way of casting media from phone to tablet

Android expert Mishaal Rahman discovered an introduction screen for a new Pixel Tablet feature in collaboration with AssembleDebug and posted the video on X, formerly Twitter

The new feature is Google’s new way of casting media to your tablet from your smartphone. According to the video, the new way of media casting is more advanced, and it will let you cast simply by holding the smartphone in front of the tablet.

It will be a superb new addition if it materializes. However, whether the new feature uses the Pixel Tablet’s ultra-wideband (UWB) chip, NFC taps, or Bluetooth proximity is unclear.

Although Rahman has added that if the feature uses the UWB chip, it would be the first unique use of the chip, as it is currently only used for Nearby Share.

Additionally, Rahman said Android 13 already has a UI for the media “Tap to Transfer” feature. But in this case, Google Play Services handles the transfer, not the operating system.

Google also stated during CES 2023 that they were “developing a way for your audio content to move with you throughout your day,” which we find very interesting, as it could be a hint about the said feature.

However, it is the first time we are learning the feature is being developed for the Pixel Tablet

Readers, I present to you, the modern equivalent of the ugly duckling – ThePhotoStick Omni 128GB.

It’s not going to win any beauty contests, that’s for sure. In fact, it might even make you question the aesthetic sensibilities of its creators. But, much like the proverbial duckling, it hides a world of practicality beneath its less-than-stellar exterior.

This little monstrosity is an all-in-one photo and video backup solution. It’s like a Swiss Army knife, but instead of a corkscrew and a pair of scissors, you get a USB stick that can backup your photos, videos, documents, voice memos, and music files.

Now, the manufacturers claim that this little beast can sort through thousands of your favorite photos and videos, removing duplicates to save space.

I mean, who needs to have six identical photos of their cat doing the same thing, right? But don’t worry, it won’t delete anything from your device unless you want it to.

And the best part? It works on all devices. Well, except for the Google Pixel. Sorry Pixel users, you’re out of luck.

But for everyone else, it’s like a universal remote for your digital memories. And did I mention there are no monthly fees or subscriptions? Take that, cloud services.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “But it’s so ugly!”

Yes, yes it is. But let’s be honest, so is your old high school yearbook photo, but you still keep that around, don’t you? Besides, it’s what’s on the inside that counts, right? And on the inside, this thing is a powerhouse.

Sure, it’s got the aesthetic appeal of a brick, but it’s also one of the most reliable and effective backup solutions out there, according to users.

It’s got an average rating of 3.3/5 stars from over 80 customer ratings on Amazon. Not too shabby for something that looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Who’s behind this

The PhotoStick Omni was born out of necessity when , a former VP & GM of Hewlett Packard, lost his digital memories due to a computer crash.

Unable to find an existing solution for easy and efficient photo and video backup, he created ThePhotoStick®. So, despite its less-than-attractive exterior, it’s a device rooted in innovation and a genuine need to safeguard digital memories.

So, if you can get past its unfortunate exterior, ThePhotoStick Omni 128GB is a practical, efficient, and cost-effective solution for backing up your digital life.

It may not be pretty, but it gets the job done. And in the end, isn’t that what really matters?

Google released the Nest Wi-Fi Pro only a year ago, and it immediately gained popularity among Google Nest fans because of its sleek design and amazing connectivity.

However, the company is planning to launch another model of the Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro, which will be slightly cheaper.

A cheaper Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro variant

A cheaper Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro could be in works.
Image: KnowTechie

The detail was discovered by the folks at 9to5Google during an APK teardown. They found that the current version of Google’s Home app (version 3.4) was hiding some secrets.

The code name “Breeza” was mentioned in the underlying code, and the same code also revealed the model number GS4VD.

However, before jumping to any conclusions, we need to understand that the APK teardown only hits at potential features, that Google may or may not add in the future.

So it isn’t a confirmation, and we suggest taking the information with a grain of salt.

That said, the reliable news outlet has stated that the Google Home app treats Breeza “almost exactly” as it does the current Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro, which begs the question about the differences between the upcoming and the existing models.

Google ditched the Wi-Fi mesh points that used to double as Google Assistant speakers and have integrated the Wi-Fi 6E standard. That’s the primary difference between the Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro and its predecessor.

However, there’s no mention of Assistant speakers in the code for this potentially new version.

So it’s possible that the new “Breeza” model won’t have the mesh points. However, this is all just speculation and the “Breeza” model could simply be a cheaper variant of the Nest Wi-Fi Pro.

If you look back, Google has a history of doing this. The company introduced the Google Wi-Fi router back in 2016 and reintroduced the same technology in 2020 at a more affordable price.

That said, it’s all just speculation for now. If Google is really planning to introduce this device, it could launch in a few months alongside the Google Pixel 8 series. Or it could come as a separate announcement from the company.

The post Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE won’t be all that affordable after all appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
The existence of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE was leaked way before the recent Unpacked event. We’ve seen multiple leaks regarding Samsung’s upcoming Fan Edition Android tablets. However, the tablet’s pricing is shrouded with mystery.

Samsung quite recently confirmed the existence of the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Tab S9 FE Plus accidentally through the company’s French website.

And now, thanks to the journalist and tipster Roland Quandt, we finally have some information about the pricing of the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, and it doesn’t look cheap.

The high price of the vanilla Galaxy Tab S9 FE model

According to Roland Quandt, the vanilla Wi-Fi-only variant of the Galaxy Tab S9 FE with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage will cost 63,000 INR in India.

After direct conversion, the price comes to around $761, which is not really cheaper than the premium Galaxy Tab S9 which starts at $799.

That said, due to the import taxes, Samsung devices are usually priced higher in India than in the US. For example, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 costs $200 more in India.

So, considering the Indian pricing, we expect the Galaxy Tab S9 FE to be priced around $649-$699, which is not as expensive as the Indian pricing but not as affordable as previous Fan Edition tablets.

In contrast, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE was released in 2021 and came with a $529 price tag when launched. Unfortunately, Quandt didn’t share any news regarding the “Plus” variant of the Tab S9 FE series.

Now, the Korean company itself has confirmed the existence of two tablets that were rumored to be part of the Galaxy Tab S9 FE series. Although we think it was an accident on Samsung’s part.

The details regarding the upcoming tablets were revealed on the company’s French website, which journalist Roland Quandt later spotted.

The website clearly mentioned two tablets, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus. It’s an official acknowledgment, proving the existence of Samsung’s Fan Edition tablets and hinting that a launch is coming soon.

Previously, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus had both appeared in the form of leaked renders, revealing a slew of new details.

This is the first time Samsung is making Fan Edition tablets with one regular model and one Plus variant. The tablets are expected to sport 10.9-inch and 12.4-inch screens, respectively.

While the overall design of the Tab S9 FE series tablets remains close to the premium Tab S9 series, we expect Samsung to make several changes to maintain an affordable price tag.

The renders of the larger Galaxy Tab S9 FE Plus showcase a dual camera module on the back with an LED flash. While the regular Galaxy Tab S9 Plus has a dedicated space for the S Pen attachment, we are unsure about the FE variant getting stylus support.

The standard Tab S9 FE is likely to come with a single camera module on the back, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a smart connector likely for a keyboard attachment, a dual-speaker system, and a similar design.

Currently, there are no words on the pricing of these two tablets, although we expect it to be substantially lower than its premium counterparts. These are Samsung’s first FE series tablets since the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, launched in 2021.
