The post Why is my Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Beeping? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>
Ever wondered why your Chamberlain garage door opener is beeping? Everything seems fine; your door opens and closes, and then it starts an annoying beep.

Well, it’s not always a sign of trouble. That beep could be letting you know it’s operating normally. But at other times, it could indicate a serious issue with the garage door.

To decipher these beeps, you need to know two things: the type of opener you have and the number of beeps you hear.

In this guide, we aim to help you figure out whether the beep from your garage door is just a confirmation sound or an indication of a serious issue.

Troubleshoot your Chamberlain garage door opener beeping

There are three main reasons your Chamberlain myQ garage door opener would beep. These include operating on battery backup, an issue with Wi-Fi connectivity, or if Security+2.0 is announcing movement or an issue.

If your Chamberlain garage door opener has Security+2.0

A person is using a Chamberlain MyQ to access a WiFi network.
  1. Single beeps

You will hear one beep when the garage door opener is placed into limit or learn modes. It will also beep once when the Up or Down arrows are pressed.

  2. Constant beeping

If the garage door closes unattended, it will beep for eight seconds before starting to close, then continuously beep while the door is closing.

  3. If an obstruction occurs

If the door hits anything when closing, it will stop, beep once and the lights will flash five times.

If your myQ garage door opener has Wi-Fi

There are also additional beeps that are common to all Chamberlain myQ garage door openers that have Wi-Fi connectivity.

  • One beep: When putting the garage door opener into Wi-Fi mode.
  • Continuous beep: While the garage door is trying to connect to the router.
  • Two beeps: While in Wi-Fi mode, the opener is trying to reach the myQ server.
  • Three slow beeps: Confirms the opener is successfully connected to Wi-Fi.
  • Three fast beeps: Confirming Wi-Fi settings being deleted from the opener.
  • One continuous beep followed by three fast beeps: Opener failed to connect to the Wi-Fi network due to a password issue.
  • No beeps: Wi-Fi turns off after 20 minutes or failing connection to the network.

Chamberlain garage door opener with battery backup

  • Beeps every two seconds: The unit is operating on battery backup, so check the AC power source.
  • Beeping every thirty seconds: This indicates an issue with the battery. The battery LED will be flashing orange if low, or solid red if the battery is dead and cannot charge.

Wrapping up

Your Chamberlain garage door opener beeps for two reasons: it’s doing something, or there’s a problem.

If you make the effort to recognize these beeps or signals, troubleshooting the garage door will get a lot easier.

How to change a Chamberlain remote control battery for your garage door opener https://knowtechie.com/change-chamberlain-remote-control-battery/ https://knowtechie.com/change-chamberlain-remote-control-battery/#respond Mon, 21 Aug 2023 17:45:33 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=312385 The battery in your Chamberlain remote control won't last forever -- here's how to change it.

The post How to change a Chamberlain remote control battery for your garage door opener appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: Remove the back cover of the remote. Take out the old battery and insert the new one. Replace the remote cover and reprogram the remote.

The latest garage door openers from Chamberlain use myQ for remote control via a smartphone app. Still, it’s good to have a backup with the company also supplying an old-school remote control and keypad.

Those remotes are battery-powered and drain over time, even if they’re not being used.

So if your garage door opener’s remote is not working as intended, the first thing you need to do is to replace the battery.

To do so, we’ve put together a handy guide to changing the battery in a Chamberlain remote control.

You’ll need some 3V CR2032 coin cell batteries and a screwdriver with a Philips head.

Here are some popular remote models by Chamberlain:

Single Button remote control (950ESTD* & 950EV)
3 Button remote control (953ESTD, 953EV, 953EV-P2, 953EVC and 953EVC-P2)

Universal Mini remote control (MC100C-P2)

  1. Open the back of the remote control

Most Chamberlain remote controls can be opened by using the visor clip to pry the back off carefully, first in the middle, then at the two sides.

  2. If you have the universal mini remote control

The Universal mini remote control has two screws on the back of the case that need to be unscrewed. The case can then easily be lifted off.

  3. Remove the old battery

Take the old battery out of the remote control, and put it aside for responsible disposal.

  4. Replace the battery

Put the new battery into the remote control with the positive (+) side facing up.

  5. Put the back cover on

Snap or screw the back cover back into place.

  6. Re-link the remote

There’s a chance that your remote and opener will get unlinked when changing the battery. To reprogram them to work together, follow Chamberlain’s instructions.

Chamberlain myQ smart garage door openers can be controlled from almost anywhere. They connect to your home WiFi, so you can remotely manage and monitor via a smartphone app.

As with most smart home devices, you’ll need a home WiFi network on the 2.4GHz frequency and the password for that network.

The garage door opener should be plugged into a socket and not on battery backup. And you’ll probably want to check how strong the WiFi signal is in the garage. The other thing is a stepladder or stepstool, as you’ll need to press some buttons on the unit.

Now to connect your Chamberlain myQ garage door opener to WiFi

Open your phone’s WiFi settings, and tap on the WiFi network that begins with myQ-XXX. Then go back to the myQ app.

  9. Select your home WiFi

Select your home WiFi network’s name from the list.

  10. Enter the password

Here's how to get them back.

The post How to see deleted Reddit posts and comments appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: The best way to see deleted Reddit posts and comments is by using third-party websites like Raredditt via Rareddit. “Reveddit reveals content removed from Reddit by moderators. It does not show user-deleted content,” reads the website’s opening line.

When diving into the comments section of a Reddit post, there’s almost nothing more disappointing than seeing a deleted comment or thread that you know had good entertainment value.

Wouldn’t it be nice to see deleted Reddit posts and comments? It’s the forbidden fruit effect in action.

The moderator—or Redditor—who nuked the material is saying, “I don’t want you to see this,” which, naturally, makes you want to see it more.

Some background: Reddit has a policy of deleting comments in certain situations. This policy may be enforced if a comment violates the platform’s rules, contains personal information, or is deemed inappropriate or offensive.

The phrase “reddit deleted comments” refers to instances where comments have been removed from a post, causing them to become inaccessible to other users.

The decision to delete these comments is generally made by Reddit administrators or moderators to maintain a safe and respectful environment for the community.

Thankfully, “removed” doesn’t mean erased from history. Let’s discuss how to view deleted comments and threads on Reddit.

Short on time? Jump ahead

How to view deleted Reddit posts and comments with Unddit

UPDATE 5/8/2023: As of May 1st, 2023, services like Unddit and Reveddit are being laid out to pasture. These services relied on Pushshift’s Data API, and now Reddit is revoking its access. So if the service isn’t working for you, that’s probably why. Read Reddit’s decision here.

Unddit was one of the best options for viewing deleted Reddit content. By adding a bookmark to your browser, you could revive dead comments and threads with the click of a button.

Use Wayback Machine to view deleted Reddit content

wayback machine search twitter

Internet archivers, such as Wayback Machine, may retain information longer than tools focusing specifically on Reddit.

However, to view deleted content, a snapshot must exist of the time when the comment or thread was still alive. In many cases, the timing won’t line up.

As a last resort, pasting the Reddit URL into Wayback Machine is worth a try, especially if it’s an older post. But don’t be disappointed if your efforts are in vain.

Are there any other tools I can use to see Reddit deleted posts or comments?

Previously, tools like Removeddit or Ceddit allowed you to view a cached version of the comment section. Unfortunately, those tools went offline sometime around 2021.

Thankfully, Unddit came in and picked up where they had left off.

Unddit offers a lot of the same functionality, with the only caveat being that it does not allow you to search for removed content in subreddits. The only option that we find and recommend is Rareddit.

UPDATE 5/8/2023: As of May 1st, 2023, services like Unddit and Reveddit are being laid out to pasture. These services relied on Pushshift’s Data API, and now Reddit is revoking its access. So if the service isn’t working for you, that’s probably why. Read more here.

Will you always be able to see deleted Reddit content using these methods?

reddit banner

No, there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to view all the deleted content using these methods.

In all honesty, these methods aren’t foolproof, and there are a bunch of factors that can affect their effectiveness.

Some of it might not have been archived or cached, or maybe someone at Reddit just pressed the “delete everything” button. Who knows?

And to top it off, Reddit might change its policies or features in the future, leaving us all in the dark about deleted content.

I mean, we can’t expect them to make it easy for us, right?

So, if you really care about your lost content, you might want to consider moving on and letting it go.

Should you dare gaze upon deleted Reddit comments?

screenshot of reddit showing the new search comments feature

Now that you know you can resurrect deleted comments and threads, you should probably ask yourself whether you should.

Often, content gets nuked for a reason, and absorbing all of that too-hot-for-Reddit material may have unforeseen consequences.

For example, reading a particularly contentious comment could cause your brain to liquefy and boil inside your skull. This is a known side effect of encountering internet trolls or particularly controversial content.

However, if you’re brave and adventurous, the potential entertainment value in reviving deleted content may be worth the risk.

Then again, we won’t judge if you decide to delete your Reddit account and never look back.

Is Chamberlain myQ free to use? https://knowtechie.com/chamberlain-myq-free-or-not/ https://knowtechie.com/chamberlain-myq-free-or-not/#respond Thu, 17 Aug 2023 20:07:38 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=312288 Does chamberlain myQ require a subscription?

The post Is Chamberlain myQ free to use? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: Mostly. The Chamberlain myQ app is free to use as long as you use the standard built-in features of the app. That includes features like real-time alerts, guest and remote access. However, if you want to link it with other home automation tools and smart devices, there might be associated fees.

The latest Chamberlain garage door openers come equipped with myQ technology that allows users to remotely access their garage doors.

This is controlled by a dedicated smartphone app, but does it require a subscription to use?

In this guide, we will discuss both the free and paid features of the myQ app.

Chamberlain's automatic garage door openers are powered by myQ. That gives you app control and linking to Amazon Key, for in-garage deliveries to defeat porch pirates.

myQ features

Here is a list of all the free features of myQ app.

Check status

The image shows a history of two garage doors being opened and closed at different times.
Image: KnowTechie

The app allows you to check the status of your garage door effortlessly.

In fact, myQ keeps a detailed log of when the garage door was opened and closed and for how long. You get an instant alert when the door remains open for too long.

Remote access

The application utilizes a graphical user interface.
Image: KnowTechie

Another cool feature is remote access which allows you to open and close garage doors and control compatible lights from anywhere in the world.

Imagine returning home after a long day at work or an exhausting trip.

Remote access removes the hassle of fumbling for your garage remote or keypad, as with a single tap, you can open your garage door as you approach.

Scheduling

The graphical user interface allows users to interact with applications, chat, and send text messages.
Image: KnowTechie

This feature is particularly useful when you have a set routine and minimize the inconvenience of pulling out your phone to open the door.

Or when you are away and want to switch the lights off/on at specific times to create the illusion that someone is present inside.

Or perhaps, you have a forgetful nature and want to set a specific closing time for the garage door at night.

Adding guests for temporary access

The graphical user interface interacts with the application.
Image: KnowTechie

If you feel uncomfortable sharing a physical key or access code with a guest or family member who frequently visits your home, this feature is built just for you.

The Guest Access feature on myQ app allows you to securely share access to your home with up to five users.

You can revoke this access anytime you want; specify the days and times that the user will have access to your home and select a garage door or gate that they can open and close.

Free smart home integrations

myQ app has several free smart home integrations, but we are going to share only the most popular ones here.

Amazon’s Key in-garage delivery

The graphical user interface interacts with the application.
Image: KnowTechie

The app offers direct integration with Amazon Key service. You can receive packages directly in your garage if you have an Amazon Prime subscription. Plus, you get real-time alerts when a delivery is made.

This would lead many to presume that myQ will also work with Amazon’s smart home assistant, Alexa, which unfortunately isn’t the case.

However, a workaround through IFTT allows you to get Alexa in the myQ app.

Apple HomeKit integration

The user interacts with the graphical user interface and application.
Image: KnowTechie

If you’re an Apple user, myQ seamlessly integrates with Apple HomeKit. However, there is a catch.

You would have to buy an extra piece of overpriced hardware: myQ Home Bridge. As the name suggests, the device will bridge myQ devices and your HomeKit Hub.

This integration allows you to control your garage door through Siri voice commands. However, Chamberlain discontinued the production of myQ Home Bridge due to poor sales, so you might not be able to find one.

Ring integration

The cell phone screen is cracked.
Image: KnowTechie

Another great myQ integration is with the Ring app

With Ring+myQ integration, you can see a live view of your garage door from your Ring doorbell camera. You can also open or close your garage door and set your Ring alarm to arm itself when the garage door closes.

Premium smart home partnerships

Download on the App Store Google play ·K
Image: KnowTechie

Some myQ integrations require a supplementary subscription fee from myQ or the integrated partner.

Video storage plans

If you have a camera attached to your myQ garage door opener, you can view the live stream from it at any time. The custom motion alerts are also free, as is two-way audio.

What you don’t get for free is support for multiple cameras, people detection, or saved video history of motion events.

It costs $3.99 monthly, and $39.99 annually for seven days of video recording history. Or you can get a 30-day history for $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year.

IFTTT custom automation commands

IFTTT allows you to create custom automation commands for a wide range of tasks.

Pairing myQ with IFTTT opens up endless possibilities for you, a few of them are as follows:

  • You can automate the door to close as soon as you leave home.
  • Can control garage door through Alexa
  • Turn on/off your MyQ light when Nest is set to Home/Away
  • If the garage door is opened or closed, turn on/off Wyze Camera
  • When the MyQ garage door is opened, turn on the AC

As mentioned earlier, this integration requires an IFTTT subscription. As we last checked, the IFTTT integration price is $2.50 or $5 monthly, depending on usage.

Tesla integration

The image shows the settings for a Tesla Model 3, including notifications, locks, lights, and autopilot settings.
Image: KnowTechie

You can connect your Tesla to the garage door and program the door so that it opens up or closes as you approach or leave the house. The following Tesla models are compatible with the myQ devices: Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X.

The integration is free for the trial period (around 30 days), but once it ends, you have a 1-year, 5-year, or 10-year subscription available. Here is a complete breakdown of the subscription plans:

The myQ app brings incredible convenience to managing your garage door. Most of its native features are free that range from remote control to scheduling and monitoring.

The app has an extensive list of partnership with companies like Amazon, Apple, Tesla, and more that helps it to advance its capabilities.

Most of these partnerships don’t have a cost attached to them, but a few need a monthly subscription that varies from service to service.

The post Does myQ work with Alexa? appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: Yes, myQ devices can connect to Alexa, but with a caveat. There is no direct support for Alexa in myQ app. However, you can connect both platforms through the IFTTT (If This, Then That) app. This workaround allows you to control myQ-enabled garage doors using voice commands.

In many homes, Alexa adds a lot of convenience to doing everyday chores. Amazon’s voice assistant can adjust the temperature on a smart thermostat, turn on/off smart lights, play music on a smart speaker, or even lock/unlock doors.

Despite wide-ranging capabilities, Alexa lacks native support for certain types of home automation, notably garage door control.

This is where Chamberlain Group’s innovation steps in. The company has recently introduced a new breed of myQ-enabled garage door openers that allows you to control and monitor your garage door through a smartphone app.

But, frequently using a smartphone may not be convenient. So, can myQ work with Alexa for easier control?

Here’s how to link Alexa to your myQ garage door opener for voice control.

Connect myQ with Alexa via IFTTT

Chamberlain myQ garage door openers are the market leader but don’t natively support many smart home automation.

You can add voice control with a third-party app, IFTTT. Here’s how:

  1. Setup IFTTT

if this then that app shown in the app store

Download your smartphone’s IFTTT (If This, Then That) app (Google Play Store) (Apple App Store). Alternatively, you can use the web app.

  2. Create an account

If you don’t already have one, create an IFTTT account and subscription (this costs $2.50 monthly)

  3. Connect IFTTT with myQ

This image is prompting the user to sign in to their myQ account with their email and password in order to grant IFTTT access and control of their myQ enabled devices.

Visit the myQ Integrations page on the IFTT website and connect myQ with your IFTT account.

  4. Link Alexa to IFTTT

The image shows the login page for Amazon, prompting the user to enter their email address and password to sign in.

Visit the Amazon Alexa IFTTT page and log in with your Amazon account information.

  5. Use existing applets

This image shows how Alexa and MyQ integrations can be used to trigger, query, and perform actions such as closing a door.

The myQ Integrations page on IFTT platforms has a lot of existing applets that you can toggle on and off.

  6. Close the garage door

The image is showing the process of remotely closing a car garage door using a myQ app.

Here is a popular one that closes the myQ-compatible garage door with specific commands on your Alexa devices. Make sure to toggle the connect switch to activate this applet.

You can also create your own IFTTT applets if the specific function you want isn’t on the hub page. That said, myQ garage door openers have only a few options, so it’s likely the one you want already exists.

It’s a shame there is no native support for Alexa on the myQ app. Chamberlain has most of the market share for garage door openers, but its smart home support is lacking.

Still, there are many workarounds in the market to make it work. We have shared the most popular and effective method with you.

Just be aware there is a cost attached to this home automation solution. You would have to pay IFTTT a nominal fee (currently $2.50 monthly). Also, you won’t be able to open the garage door with voice commands for the obvious security risk.

If your Chamberlain myQ garage door opener is beeping irregularly, it’s probably time to change the backup battery.

To ensure smooth operation during power outages, the company uses battery backups in most of its garage door openers. Replacing these batteries every one to two years is recommended for optimal performance.

A simple way to confirm whether your garage door is running low on battery is by checking the LED indicator that represents the battery status. It turns red when the battery needs replacement.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to change the battery in your Chamberlain garage door opener.

Can I delete multiple iPhone contacts quickly? It’s super easy! https://knowtechie.com/delete-multiple-iphone-contacts-quickly/ https://knowtechie.com/delete-multiple-iphone-contacts-quickly/#respond Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:39:51 +0000 https://knowtechie.com/?p=302606 You can quickly trim your iPhone contacts list -- here's how.

The post Can I delete multiple iPhone contacts quickly? It’s super easy! appeared first on KnowTechie.

]]>

Quick Answer: There are multiple ways to delete multiple iPhone contacts in a single sitting. You can easily do it via Contacts or iCloud. You also can just delete all of your contacts by removing the sync to your account.

Is your iPhone contact list full of people you don’t know, don’t remember, or don’t talk to anymore? Are you ready to clean out the clutter? Are you in a deleting sort of mood?

If so, you probably don’t want to go through the tedious process of deleting unwanted contacts one by one. We know you’ve got better things to do, right?

So, what’s the solution?

Although Apple doesn’t make it obvious, you can delete multiple contacts in one hit. All it takes is a bit of tapping and a modest amount of dragging.

If you’re up to the task, we’ll guide you every step of the way to get the job done. Let’s discuss how to delete multiple iPhone contacts all at once.

How to delete multiple iPhone contacts

If you want to delete multiple iPhone contacts, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Launch the Contacts app or select Contacts in the Phone app
  2. Locate the batch of contacts you want to delete
  3. Using two fingers, press one of the contacts you want to delete and drag up or down to select multiple entries. Selected contacts will be highlighted
  4. Once you’ve selected the contacts you want to delete, release your fingers and long-press one of the highlighted entries
  5. Tap Delete X Contacts in the pop-up menu to remove those contacts

The drag-and-select method relies on the entries you want to delete being grouped together.

Realistically, unless you want to delete everything, the contacts you do want to remove are likely scattered all throughout the list, which can make the deletion process a little tedious. But it doesn’t have to be.

If you’re using iCloud for your contacts and don’t want to deal with the tedium of deleting them using your iPhone, we have a solution.

Delete multiple iPhone contacts via iCloud

If you’re storing your contacts in iCloud, you can delete multiple entries via iCloud.com on your computer.

When you use this method, you can select multiple items, no matter where they sit on the list, and banish them from existence.

When you sync contacts with iCloud, any changes you make via the website reflect on your iPhone, which is exactly what we want. Of course, you should only remove entries you’re happy never to lay eyes on again.

How to delete multiple iPhone contacts via iCloud

Say goodbye to cluttered contact lists on your iPhone with this simple step-by-step guide on deleting multiple contacts via iCloud. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Log in

iCloud sign in screen on Mac computer.

Go to iCloud.com on a computer and sign in.

  2. Make your way to the Contacts app

The image shows a list of various applications on iCloud.com

Click the App button and select Contacts.

  3. Alright, who’s getting the axe?

The image shows the user creating a group of contacts in iCloud by selecting multiple contacts from a list. Full Text: iCloud Contacts 5 Contacts Mudassary ? All Contacts A F W Y Z + Anjashah Create Group

Hold either Command (Mac) or Control (Windows) and click all the contacts you want to delete. Selected contacts will be highlighted.

  4. Delete, delete, delete

The image is prompting the user to confirm if they want to delete the selected contacts.

Click the Settings icon, select Delete, and confirm when prompted.

Delete all iPhone contacts

If, for whatever reason, you would prefer to go nuclear on your contacts and remove all of them from your iPhone, there may be a simple solution.

However, for the nuclear option to work, your contacts need to be syncing with an account of some type, such as iCloud.

Following these steps will remove all synced contacts from your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings ContactsAccounts
  2. Select the account you’re syncing your contacts with
  3. Toggle off Contacts
  4. Tap Delete from My iPhone when prompted

Once you’ve switched contacts off, all synced contacts from that account will be removed from your phone. You can, however, summon them back to your device at any time by toggling Contacts back on, as they are still stored in the cloud.

Risks of deleting iPhone contacts

If you’re ready to go on a deleting spree, at least one of the methods mentioned should get the job done.

Removing big batches of contacts can be fun, therapeutic even. However, when you do go on a deleting spree, you open yourself up to now unknown numbers calling and messaging you, not knowing you’ve removed them from your life.

Perhaps Apple should add a deletion alert feature that notifies people when they’ve been removed from someone’s iPhone. Honestly, though, it would probably cause my problems than it solves.

With the launch of Google’s Pixel 7, we received an interesting new feature: cough and snore detection. You may be asking, “Why would I want my phone to detect coughing and snoring?”

Good question…

If you’re feeling inexplicably tired most mornings, even after a seemingly good night’s rest, something may be disrupting your sleep. It may not even be something you’re consciously aware of, like your own coughing and snoring, for example.

Thankfully, modern Pixel smartphones can assist with the investigation.

Are you unsure if you’ve been coughing or snoring at night? When it comes to solving any problem, gaining awareness is the first step.

Let’s discuss how to enable cough and snore detection on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro.

Google Pixel Models we’ll cover in this guide

Turn on snore detection on Pixel 7 devices

Google’s cough and snore detection is a Digital Wellbeing feature. Specifically, it’s a part of Bedtime mode, which also includes tools for minimizing distractions when you should be sleeping—definitely worth checking out.

By following these steps, you can enable Pixel’s cough and snore detection to learn your coughing and snoring habits:

  1. Open Settings

This shows the Digital Wellness option in a Pixel smartphone

Open the Settings app and go to the Digital Wellbeing & parental controls section.

  2. Bedtime mode

Set up Bedtime mode if you haven’t already, toggling Cough & snore detection on when prompted.

  4. Set up Snore detection

  5. Enable the function

This image is asking the user if they would like to allow Digital Wellbeing to access their device's microphone in order to detect coughing and snoring during their scheduled bedtime. Tap on Allow access.

  6. Toggle it on

Tap the toggle for Cough & snore detection.

With the feature enabled, your Pixel’s microphone will monitor and document any coughing and snoring that occurs during your scheduled bedtime.

Once you’ve let your phone listen to you sleep, you can access your data under your Bedtime mode Weekly average summary to see exactly how much coughing and snoring you’ve been doing.

For coughing, you’ll see the total number of coughs recorded. For snoring, you’ll see how much time you spent snoring throughout the week. The results may surprise you.

What should you do with cough and snore data?

Once you know how much coughing and snoring you’ve been getting up to, what’s next?

Well, if the results alarm you, you may want to investigate why you’re coughing and snoring so much. The question is, how much is too much?

While we’d love to help further, we’re not cough experts, nor are we snorologists. Those sorts of questions are best directed at medical professionals, sleep scientists, or that one friend or family member who thinks they know everything about everything.
