Is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 waterproof?

So, what’s changed? All three tablets have an official IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, enhancing their durability and making them an even more attractive choice for consumers.

Is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 waterproof? 

Short Answer: No, the Galaxy Tab S9 isn’t technically waterproof, but it is water resistent to a certain extent.

Regrettably, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 isn’t entirely water-resistant. No electronic device can claim absolute water resistance.

However, marking a significant shift in their design approach, Samsung has equipped their latest Android tablet, the Tab S9 series, with an IP68 rating.

This Ingress Protection (IP) rating measures the device’s resistance to dust and water.

So yes, you can submerge the device underwater for a certain amount of time at a certain depth, but that doesn’t mean you can take it with you on deep-diving missions.

So, feel free to use your Galaxy Tab S9 by the pool or at the beach. Rest assured; your Android tablet is well-protected against accidental dips.

What does an IP68 rating mean on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9?

The Ingress Protection or IP rating assesses a device’s resistance to damage from dust and water. The first digit in “IP68” indicates dust resistance, while the second digit indicates water resistance.

The Tab S9 has the highest rating for dust resistance, meaning the device is primarily impervious to damage from dust particles.

The second digit of the IP rating indicates water resistance. Water resistance is measured on a nine-point scale. This makes the Tab S9 with an IP68 rating mostly water resistant. 

The device can be submerged in water up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. You can use your Galaxy tablet by the pool, but avoid putting it in a heated pool or hot tub.

The IP68 rating won’t protect the device from liquid damage in high heat, as it weakens the adhesives.

The Galaxy Tab S9 is not waterproof, but it is highly water-resistant

In conclusion, while the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series isn’t entirely waterproof, it takes a giant leap forward regarding water resistance. With an IP68 rating, these tablets are designed to resist dust and withstand accidental immersion in water.

This doesn’t mean you can take them deep-sea diving, but an accidental drop in the pool or a splash at the beach won’t send you running to the nearest repair shop. Just remember, high-heat environments like hot tubs are still a no-go.
