New OnePlus Open renders showcase a different design

A new design as the launch nears.

New and Old OnePlus Open Renders

OnePlus is gearing up for its first book-style foldable smartphone, OnePlus Open, the existence of which was first confirmed by the company at the MWC 2023.

Months after the cryptic announcement, multiple rumors recently suggested the company was ready to launch the smartphone, likely on August 29th

Unfortunately, recently, a new leak that claimed the company had delayed the OnePlus Open launch, speculating a display manufacturer switch from BOE to Samsung.

We expected the company may change a few other things with the display, but the latest leaked render shows a shocking design change.

The folks over at the Smartprix were able to get their hands on more recent renders of the OnePlus Open in collaboration with the prominent leaker OnLeaks.

The latest renders showcase OnePlus’ first book-style foldable smartphone. However, it looks quite different from the previous renders we saw over a month ago. These renders are not based on the final CAD files, which means they could still be inaccurate.

Regarding the change, the device now looks fairly wider, and we suspect the aspect ratio is closer to that of the Google Pixel Fold. The cover display corners next to the hinge appear rounded, and the bezels also seem a bit thinner. No offense to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 fans, but we prefer this aspect ratio and design.

Other noticeable changes appear in the camera department. The camera module is bigger, and it is slightly more protruding. Instead of the usual “Hasselblad” branding, there’s just an “H,” indicating the Hasselblad collaboration.

In terms of the sensors, there are still three lenses. However, the render shows a new sensor under the “H” branding. We speculate it could be a Time-of-Flight (ToF) or LiDAR sensor.

Another addition is the camera flash, which is more prominent in these renders. Also, the selfie camera has been shifted to the right corner from the left.

Lastly, the smartphone frame has been subjected to a redesign. It is more rounded, and the speakers have been repositioned.

Besides the design changes, the OnePlus Open is expected to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and 16GB RAM with a 4,800mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

We don’t think the internals have changed. Also, be sure to take these new renders with a grain of salt, as they could be inaccurate.
